Silversun Pickups

Silversun Pickups, an alternative rock band hailing from Los Angeles, emerged from the vibrant Silver Lake music scene in 2002. Currently, the band consists of Brian Aubert (vocals, guitar), Nikki Monninger (bass, vocals), Christopher Guanlao (drums), and Joe Lester (keyboards).

Their journey began in local clubs, particularly the Silverlake Lounge and Spaceland, where they cultivated a dedicated following. Initially named “A Couple of Couples,” reflecting the romantic pairings within the original lineup, the band’s moniker evolved to “Silversun Pickups.” This name originates from a liquor store across from the Silverlake Lounge, a frequent late-night stop for the band’s friends. The band has described the name as more of “a state of mind.”

Their early years culminated in the release of their debut EP, Pikul, in July 2005, which featured Tanya Haden on cello for the track “Kissing Families.” This EP laid the groundwork for their critically acclaimed debut full-length album, Carnavas, released on July 26, 2006. They followed this success with Swoon on April 14, 2009, and Neck of the Woods on May 8, 2012, solidifying their place in the alternative rock landscape.
