Create a community sundial
Joslyn Art Museum collects, preserves, and interprets the visual arts of the highest quality, fostering appreciation and enjoyment of art for the benefit of a diverse audience.
This year Joslyn plans to offer another interactive art-making activity using participants and their shadows to create a community sundial. The final work will piece together like a mural, showcasing an abstract, visual record of movement from Maha 11. The Joslyn education team will create “dials” cut and shaped from wood that will be placed on the ground in a circular pattern. Participants will make their way to the middle of the dial and, using the sun as our light source, trace their shadow with the help of a volunteer or friend. As more participants join in throughout the day, silhouettes will begin overlapping creating an abstract pattern that will be filled in with color (chalk markers/tempera). If accepted, the finished work will be displayed in Joslyn’s Community Gallery Space.
