Maha Festival Opening Night is August 14!

Come visit 7+ participating neighborhood venues in the fabulous Little Bohemia as they each host unique, intimate events to kick off Maha Festival.

August 7, 2019

Featuring music from dream punk indie band See Through Dresses, a special dance performance from Queerniverse, a podcast recording from world-renowned author and host Douglas Rushkoff, and TONS more. 

All events are all ages and no cover unless otherwise noted. Passes for OutrSpaces events are $10, available in advance at MahaFestival.com (select “Opening Night”), or at the door.

Maha Festival Box Office 

Time: 5-8 p.m.
Place: OutrSpaces, 1258 South 13th Street
Description: Want to get your wristband early for Maha Music Festival at Aksarben Village? This is the place. Just bring your ticket PDF as a printout or on your phone. You can also get your Maha Discovery badge, and buy passes here while supplies last.

Time: 5-9 p.m. (music 6:30-7:15 p.m.)
Place: Behind Tiny House Bar, 1411 South 13th Street
Description: What better way to kick off Maha Festival than with your furry friend? Enjoy beverages (for dogs and hoomans) from the Bone Bar and the sweet sounds of Aly Peeler and Andrew Bailie on the lawn behind Tiny House Bar.

Grain & Mortar Open House + Beverages & Snacks + Backyard Musical Performance by Bokr Tov

Time: 5-8 p.m. (music at 7 p.m.; refreshments while supplies last)
Place: Grain & Mortar and Vincent Outfitting, 1414 South 13th Street
Description: Hosted by creative studio Grain & Mortar. Check out the space, shop at Vincent Outfitting with special late hours until 8 p.m., and chill in the backyard to the sounds of Bokr Tov. 

Bokr Tov is a restless, five-piece rock band from Omaha. One moment filling the room with brooding atmosphere, the next bursting into a frenetic onslaught of synth and intertwining lead guitars. Listen: https://bokrtov.bandcamp.com/

AMPLIFY ARTS Pop-Up Artist Market

Place: Amplify Arts, 1419 South 13th Street, Suite 103
Description:
Amplify Arts would like to introduce the community to some of their recent grant recipients at a pop-up artist market. Check out the market and take home unique art and gifts! Featured local artists include: Heidi Hermanson, Egypt McKizia, Sophie Newell, Sarah Parys, and Yria Santos-Torres. More artists to be announced! 

 

Mobile Glass Blowing Demonstration

Time: 6-8 p.m.
Place: Amplify Arts Parking Lot, 1419 South 13th Street
Description:
Imagine a 2,000-degree furnace filled with molten glass — on wheels! The Hastings College Mobile Glass Studio is a great way to experience a bit of the college’s Department of Visual Arts and Jackson Dinsdale Art Center (JDAC).

During demonstrations, artist Corey Broman will explain the entire process and help attendees understand the science behind working with glass, including the characteristics of glass, adding and mixing colors, how temperature influences the process and more!

 

Coneflower Creamery Pop-Up

Time: 6-9 p.m.
Place: Vincent Outfitting, 1414 South 13th Street
Description: Coneflower Creamery will be bringing the truckster (aka mobile ice cream truck) to Little Bohemia to serve up their farm-to-cone treats.

Douglas Rushkoff’s Team Human Show featuring Stephen Bartolomei and Brigitte McQueen Shew, with Dundee Book Cart and Hi Omaha

Place: Archetype Coffee, 1419 South 13th Street
Description: Being human is a team sport, and Douglas Rushkoff’s Team Human Podcast and radio show has been the voice of human intervention in the machine. Catch Douglas before he takes the Maha Discovery stage, in intimate conversation with Stephen Bartolomei and Brigitte McQueen Shew.
